Print and a Movie #4

Rather then using a print really, I've chosen a design from Angelic Pretty this time ~

Print: Angelic Pretty's Frill Marine
Movie: Rodger's and Hammerstein's Carousel (1956)

Though judging by the names of these two creations, you would think another print would be in relation to this film, you guess wrong. Though this story looks to be nothing more then the story of people riding the infamous childhood favorite attraction for two hours with song, you are miss informed. Carousel tells the story of the lives of many people within a New England seaside town during the course of over multiple decades, from the perspective of an already deceased man, whose death was caused by multiple events, leading to his suicide. But what were those events? Who were the people? Most importantly, who is Julie? Carousel explains all this, but with grace and beauty. As you can tell, this isn't the most innocent story and actually a very tough subject matter. But this film truly knows how to deal with this subjects in a way that's easy to understand and take in. The best things about the film include the music (by the famous and legendary Rodgers and Hammerstein.) along with the performance of Gordon McRae as Billy, the films lead and tragic hero. He truly keeps you emotionally attached to the story, even in it's most dark points. You can see this in the famous duet, If I Loved You.

But wait, what about Frills Marine?! I personally chose this piece to go with the film, because rather then it being something to wear watching the movie, it's something I could see someone in the film wear. It totally captures the victorian seaside charms in the New England vintage setting within the plot, but has a modern twist for you Angelic Pretty girls. I especially love the sax/pink colorway, the best of the choices that this piece comes in, in my opinion. The details it includes are also very pretty, especially the top.

So together, Carousel and Frills Marine are fabulous matches. The film has continued to make me smile and cry with joy on these summer nights and Frills Marine seems like the perfect piece to wear while enjoying it and walking through the taffy shops and beaches during the summer.

Print and a Movie #3

Continuing with the Pixar trend of the last post, here comes another new print and movie combination!!

Print: Metamorphose's Sweet Park
Movie: UP

Though many might not connect the story of a old widow man in a flying house with a cute print such as Sweet Park, it's very obvious to see the relations. Many prints don't involve the illusion or idea of flight, but of the few that do this is my favorite. And what better a movie could you find about such a "flying" journey then Disney - Pixar's UP. The story is that of Carl Fredrickson, a man who just lost the love of his life and is now being forced to live in an elderly home. With his strong will and not wanting to let go of the house he and his wife built together, Carl does something extraordinary. Using hundreds upon hundreds of balloons, Carl creates his ordinary house into a flying machine of true power. With that and the help of a boy scott named Russell, They travel to the magical Paradise Falls, a dream of Carl's and his late wife to visit the location. But what is in Paradise Falls lives the true adventure.

But what about Sweet Park? With it's balloon details and beautiful color shades, it's definitely a unique print ~ I especially love the cream color, which can be seen above. Fun Fact: If your interested in the print, it's on mega sale right now on Meta's website. Sadly it's only in Pink and Sax right now, but still adorable.

Print and a Movie #2

It's been slow the past couple of weeks, but with summer break going on, everything should go much faster! Here's a new tiny post to keep you happy!!

Print: Angelic Pretty's Toy Parade
Movie: Toy Story Movies

With the celebration of the third and final entry into Pixar's flagship series, I thought it was fitting to make this post. Even though this print is sort of an obvious fit with the film, still it's a great idea to speak of. If you haven't heard of Toy Story, then I'm definitely sniffing a tear for you. This is perhaps one of the greatest series of films ever to be made. Yes, not everyone will understand these movies. But if you were a child who was raised in the 1990's and was around for the first film, you know how big an impact these films made on American culture.
I clearly remember seeing these films on a huge screen that I had to stretch my neck up until it hurt to see everything going on. Buzz's jump from the car tracks, Pizza Planet, Sid. Everything was magical. I only just came back from #3 and it is a masterpiece, possibly more then it's cannon film. But they all share special places in our memories and with that I recommend you check them out.
Angelic Pretty's Toy Parade is also a classic in the Sweet Lolita world. It's very rare to find many of the items and goes for a lot these days. With it's joyful color patterns and lovely details, it's timeless just like Toys themselves. Check them both out together ~

LVF Update 6/10/10

Hey everyone ! LVF has had a lot of activity recently and wow has it been great! First off, Lolita Day was absolutely fantastic. Full of lovely people all over and a panel that went perfectly without any hitches. We (Myself, Victoria and Crystal) spoke to a full house of beautiful lolitas and people who all seemed interested in our opinions. Kelsey and Zoh also did a fantastic fashion panel along with Bibi's insight into the fashion. I have to say, I was very proud to be in the presence of so many women in our culture that I respect and I hope this type of event continues to happen in New York for years to come.

Next up, LVF has officially over 60 followers! Thank you so much for checking out my little baby and supporting it all the way. I really have this dream that I'll get to 100 followers sometime by the end the summer, so if somehow you think you have people that'd be interested in checking out the blog, tell them to follow.

Look out for more little posts with pictures, videos and reviews coming soon!

Thanks everyone for helping LVF gain a following of 50 subscribers. I never really thought anyone, let alone 50 people, would be reading this blog at all. So what is coming up? Well, I'll be off to Lolita Day next weekend for the Blogging Panel. If you are near or around the NYC area, please come to see it!! Otherwise, it will be videotaped and uploaded so don't worry if you cant make it. There's also some new reviews in the works and more "Print and a Movie" to come as well.

New Series: Print and a Movie #1

I thought its high time I came up with a new series to give you all something neat to look at! But what is it exactly? Well I took a bit of inspiration from a cable show called Dinner and a Movie, where the host would cook a related meal to the film they would be showing on the channel. But how to connect that similar idea to Lolita Fashion? Simple, Pick a Print that relates to a certain film, and with that we have our new series, Print and a Movie.

This week will be a focus on Angelic Pretty's newest print: Milky Berry !!

Print: Milky Berry
Movie: Pleasantville (1998)

Though not the rori-est of movies, Pleasantville was my choice to go with Angelic Pretty's newest release because of it's 50's charms. Though I love everyone's favorite nostalgic 50's style movie, Grease, Plesantville has this flair that no film I truly think could capture of the era. If you haven't seen Pleasantville, I really recommend it! It's the story of two kids who get sucked into the television show of the same name, and because of their modern era ways of thinking, change the show completely. Almost literally from black and white to color, but also deeper meaning of that description. It can easily give what was the best and worst parts of the 50's, so if you'd like to be educated or influenced, go check it out! Just don't forget your Milky Berry print !!

In other LVF news, we are so close to the big number of 50 subscribers !! Tell all your friends to join, as LVF loves the support in any which way.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: La Vida Frills at Kinokuniya's Lolita Day Event

So La Vida Frills has got some cool news for all of those in the New York area! Got nothing to do June 5th aka Lolita Day? Wanna come meet some great Lolitas, get insight into the fashion, and listen to yours truly talk about the frilly sides of cinema? Well get your bloomers to Kinokuniya in the afternoon to hear Myself, Lolita Charm and Pretty Wonderland (along with fashion brands I Do Declare and Morrigan NYC) talk about everything rori to the core.

But wanna know another great reason to come? Prizes!! There will be two "Lolita Kits" (themed to sweet and gothic) being raffled off, as well as a special prize from La Vida Frills!

But the question is, what has been going on with La Vida Frills (hrrmm... me?) lately? A lot and to put best, some great things. Some of them are lolita related, while others are just great all together. I suppose the thing thats been taking up my time the most is my involvement in the Tribeca Film Festival. Though not the most rori thing, it's very interesting to really see what my future career could be like and how great it'll be. If you'd like to see some of my work, you can check it out here.

The other project I just finished is something you will all find of interest. In one of my classes, we were required to do a 30 second spot for anything we wanted. Of course I chose a brand, and of course that brand was Angelic Pretty (would it be anything else? doubt it.) I can't give out the details, but you might be seeing the commercial in more places then just here, though I gotta keep the rest a surprise. Here's the commercial.
